Comfort in drawing is something that every artist needs, especially if creating new work becomes a daily habit. Never would I ever think to do a lot of digital sketching since a laptop + drawing tablet is tedious to lug around. Even with an iPad or android device, I still feel inhibited with the idea of having to ‘finger paint’ my way on the screen.
From L-R: The Jot Pro | Jot Classic | Jot Mini
Getting my hands on a JOT stylus from Adonit is possibly the best solution I can get for my needs. They’re certainly a dream to draw with rather than having to do everything by my index finger.
First off, I got to try the Jot Classic and Jot Pro on the iPad while using the Paper app. The program is free but the add-ons are not, so I do not have the luxury of having a wider palette or doing full volume figures for my drawings. The stylus does allow me more freedom with my lines while using what is available to me.

Pardon my fascination for poor burdened shaolin boys carrying giant fruit. (I honestly can’t stop drawing them on my iPad). Just using the Jot Classic has already improved my mark making by a lot. All of the Jot styluses come with a thin clear disk that help in making precise drawings.

I feel that this drawing style is successful because of the minimal mark making- a feat I can never do without a stylus. For this illustration, I used the Jot Pro which is plenty comfortable with the rubber grip. I also like how it feels a bit heavier than the Classic. I feel like it gives me better control. The pen body is also magnetic so you can conveniently attach it to your tablet.
Hard to believe I could ever digitally paint like this on my cellphone!
Now for something very different. The Jot Mini is smaller as the name implies but the body is ergonomically designed with a clip; all the while keeping to the sleek pen shape of the stylus. I especially love using this on my Samsung Galaxy on my Sketch n Draw app (now called InstaDraw). With such a small screen to work with, I could never get such fine detail with my fingertips. Again, I can come up with a full range of value since my android app gives me so many options for rendering.

Your updates are all excellent but there is a special place in my heart for these adorable shaolin boys! <3 Wow, I'm having a valid reason to upgrade to smart phones and tablets! :)
These shaolin boys carry my burden for me. haha! Yeah, having a tablet is such a great investment. I started bringing it out with me to work when I’m meeting with clients. It’s great for planning designs and for drawing on the spot :D
